ROCH - Introduction

Return of the Condor Heroes or for short ROCH, probably has the most adaptations to TV series of all of Jin Yong’s works. The first one was made by KTV in ‘76 starring Luo Lelin. Following that, the one that changed history, was produced by TVB in ‘83 starring Andy Lau as Yang Guo and Idy Chan as Xiao Longnu. Taiwan produced the third in ‘84, which was followed by a ‘95 TVB remake, starring Louis Koo and Carmen Lee. In ‘98, TCS attempted to produce the series, and in the same year, Taiwan reproduced the latest version of ROCH.

Out of the six, the ‘83 and ‘95 were the two top ones. Whereas the ‘83 version is the classical adaptation, the latter ‘95 is praised for its accuracy to the novel. Accurate or not, I personally will stay loyal to the ‘83 version. They should never have made any more adaptations after the ‘83. Obviously no one else but Andy Lau and Idy Chan could have given the captivating performances they did of Yang Guo and Xiao Longnu. In addition, the soundtrack in ‘83 were unsurpassed by any other versions.
