Sects Comparison
Quanzhen Bai
of ROCH & Wudang Bai
of HSDS
Both were Taoist sects.
Both were founded by famous historical taoists. Wang Chongyang in ROCH and Zhang Sanfeng in HSDS.
While Wang Chongyang’s life was deeply affected by the Jiu Yin Zhen Jing, Zhang Sanfeng’s life was deeply affected by the Jiu Yang Zhen Jing.
In his youth, Wang Chongyang fought against the Jin Empire, while Zhang Sanfeng’s youth was spent fighting the Mongolian Empire.
Both sects produced 7 notable students, the Quanzhen Seven Disciples in ROCH, the Wudang Seven Heroes in HSDS.
Both were dominant martial sects of their time in ROCH & HSDS.
Gumu Bai
of ROCH & E’Mei Bai
of HSDS
Both were founded by a woman. Lin Chaoying in ROCH, Guo Xiang in HSDS.
Gumu Bai was a quasi-Taoist sect, while E’Mei Bai was a bona-fide Taoist sect.
Both sects produced hateful, cruel-hearted man-haters, Li Mochou in ROCH, Miejui Shitai and Zhou Zhiruo in HSDS.
Gumu Bai was most noted for its Yu Xiao Jian Fa, while E’Mei Bai was for its E’Mei Jian Fa.
Lin Chaoying founded the Gumu Bai in grief after losing her lover Wang Chongyang. She espoused a belief in the immorality of men and taught her all-women followers to hate and distrust men. Guo Xiang founded the E’Mei Bai in grief after losing her would-be lover, Yang Guo. Although she did not (as far as we know) personally espouse a belief in hating the male sex, her followers (most notably Zhou Zhiruo) did come to adopt such a philosophy after being spurned by her would-be lover, Zhang Wuji.
Interesting Point: The Quanzhen Jiao and Gumu Bai were “sibling” sects, much as the Wudang Bai and E’Mei Bai were.
